CRA's contention that Australian radio is "incredibly over regulated" is pure nonsense. Australian radio standards are much lower than the USA for example. Triple J (which I like and support by the way) have pushed the boundaries since they first went to air all those years ago. And although unwise to speak ill of the dead - that moron Stan Zemanik got away with race baiting and hate speech for years. And Ackie and Jackie in Melbourne - funny as hell - but scatological as well. And Graham Kennedy and his hilarious 'crow call' which got 'fuck' on the air - and didn't we all know it.

I was listening to a well known fast talking football identity being interviewed on Brisbane radio not long ago and in the space of a minute or two he had slipped the F word in a dozen times - it was part of his normal vocabulary and sounded so natural that I had to laugh.

Qantas, Optus, Coca Cola, Channel Ten will all be back on the station within weeks - is my guess. The dividing line between outrageous and disgusting is not for the likes of Sandilands to call. It's balanced judgement from management - and smart producers.

Excellent article, Mel. And point taken: if you want the broadcaster to improve its bad habits, target its sponsors. So, don't complain to 2UE, folks, complain to the companys who advertise there. The key word to use is BOYCOTT.

Nup, the show is back next week as usual – only difference is it now has a delay button. Sue Javes has an excellent piece in the Sydney Morning Herald that makes it clear why Austereo would never sack Kyle and Jackie O: they're topping the ratings. Instead, the Austereo internal inquiry was about minimising the chance that a similar PR disaster will happen again.

Javes's most interesting point, though, is that the only thing that could damage the show now is if Kyle's loss of prestige and income from Idol has killed the cockiness that has been his professional trademark.

And interestingly, ACMA now admits that its code of practice "might be falling short of community standards" and plans to review it. However, the industry's own lobby group, Commercial Radio Australia, will resist any changes and argues that the industry is already " incredibly overregulated".

I'd suggest that ACMA could begin by harnessing regulations on sponsorship and commercial activities to a code of ethics; that way any breach of the ethical code would have economic consequences for the stations.

Being famous for being famous is not new...neither is being famous without talent. (Oh, Milli Vanilli - Paris Hilton - Kyle Sandilands..et,al.) Sandilands lacks talent and empathy - that's why he's in this shitstorm. The transcript of the encounter with the 14 year old child is damning on all parties involved with the exception of the young girl. (Austereo management - the mother). I accidentally caught Sandilands on the Idol show a fewweeks back and was astounded at how inarticulate he is and his screaming lack of knowledge about music. He's a Simon Cowell wannabe without the background. He's paid to be obnoxious - and nobody does it better. If Austereo Dobson and co-horts continue to search for more outrageous attention getting stunts - they should look into the Brazilian host who is alleged to have organized murders to boost his show's ratings. 'Snuff Radio! And we'll pay for the funeral.' Let's hope the only funeral at 2DAY FM will be the burial of the Kyle and Jackie O show.

Perhaps the one upside of this 'grubby affair' was that Monday's Media Watch was one of the most enjoyable since the naked Pauline Hanson pics episode. Still, it is with a definite and woeful schadenfreude that I note that Media Watch is at its most enjoyable when douchebags are prominent in the media.
